Steppingstone serves young men and women, ages 16 to 21, who are homeless or at-risk, who need a place to live. Pregnant or parenting youth are admitted with equal consideration to those who are not in that situation.
Steppingstone provides support and education to these young people while they become self-reliant, productive members of the community. This unique program provides a continuum of care and supervision to young adults as they progress from living in group care to living in the community.
Steppingstone provides a safe place to live, educational assistance, life skills training, job placement coaching assistance, medical care, individual therapy, and case management.
Steppingstone is a program of Evangelical Children's Home. Evangelical Children's Home has served the needs of homeless and troubled children in Missouri since 1858. It is a non-profit, tax-exempt agency governed by a diverse Board of Directors from throughout Missouri. Two members of the Board of Directors are from the Kansas City area and have a special relationship with Steppingstone. The agency serves homeless and at-risk adolescents, emotionally troubled children and families. Services are extended equally to all in need without regard to race, religion or national origin. While we voluntarily retain our historical affiliation with the United Church of Christ, the church mandates neither funds nor policies to our operation. Evangelical Children's Home is not a United Way agency.
